Karen has been an integral part of Sage’s dynamic team of staff and volunteers for the past seven years, serving most recently as Assistant Executive Director, and is well positioned to follow Roger Laing’s 19 year legacy of leadership and innovation when he retires later this year.
The Board undertook a rigorous process to identify Roger’s successor, and we are confident that Karen’s unique combination of knowledge, experience, and commitment are best suited to Sage’s vision of a community where all seniors are valued and have the opportunity to live according to their beliefs, abilities, and aspirations.
Karen is a 17 year veteran of the seniors-serving sector, and holds an MBA from the University of Alberta. She has a distinct talent for collaboration and innovation that has already helped shape the direction that Sage will take in coming years.
As Executive Director, Karen will work with a unique team of staff and volunteers who are dedicated to delivering the highest quality person-centred seniors’ services. Sage continues to strive to be a leader in the provision of services that optimize the resilience of the individuals we serve, while also meeting their needs when they experience vulnerability. This is possible through exceptional partnerships and relationships; unwavering commitment to our core values; rigorous research, evaluation and evidence-based practice; and operational excellence in Board governance, financial accountability, fund development/advancement, staff management, and volunteer involvement.
As Sage moves into 2017, Karen will lead the team as services evolve and grow to meet the needs and build on the strengths of the growing number of older adults in Alberta.
Karen officially assumed the position on October 24, and will be mentored by Roger until the end of December 2016. We invite you to offer your congratulations to both Karen and Roger as they take on new and exciting opportunities.
