Remembering Jeff Bovee

Posted on November 19 2020

On Tuesday, November 10, Sage lost one of our beloved volunteers, Jeff Bovee, who passed away at the age of 76. Jeff, who became a Sage volunteer in 2012, was the founder and volunteer leader of “Over the Rainbow” –  a drop-in support and social group for LGBTQ+ seniors, and was the force behind the Strawberry Tea event, which has become a Pride Week tradition. He had a way of making people feel welcome, and will be remembered for his warmth, humour, and fun-loving personality.

Sage would like to send our condolences to Jeff’s family – particularly Evert, Jeff’s partner of more than fifty years – and express our gratitude for the work that Jeff pioneered to make Sage a more welcoming, inclusive community.

While I did not know Jeff, he sounds like a wonderful man who brought great things to SAGE and the world at large. I am sorry for your loss.

Jeff was a very welcoming person, always greeting me with a twinkle in his eye and often with a big hug. I enjoyed spending time with him at SAGE as he was quite the joker. The annual Strawberry Tea event was fun for all, and I'm thankful for his hard work in organizing the promotion, entertainment, prizes and taking care of other details. I will miss Jeff.

I knew Jeff for many years when he sang in the choir at St. Luke's church. We had so much fun - always a prankster and ready for a joke. He even helped remove a wall in my house. I am so sorry to hear of his passing and wish I could have been there to remember him:(

It is with deepest regrets to hear of the passing of Jeff. I knew him as a long time member of St.Lukes church choir of which he had a amazing singing voice. Also, I had been a member of SAGE played many games with him. What a joy to have had known him, a TRUE FRIEND. GOD BLESS he will be missed. Harriet

I miss Jeff who always greeted so warmly with a hug over the many years I know him. Jeff volunteered at my office at City Hall when I was on City Council and then volunteered with the Edmonton Pride Centre during some of its most difficult days. Jeff's commitment to SAGE and the Rainbow group was an inspiration to me and was important to him, to SAGE and the others who were part of the Rainbow group.
