Alberta’s government is seeking input from stakeholders and the public on an enhanced definition of elder abuse, to better meet the needs of older adults and support organizations. Updating the definition used by legislation, policies, and programs is intended to improve the safety and well-being of seniors across the province. An enhanced definition will enable Alberta’s government to collect better elder abuse data, and work toward improved information-sharing across government-funded provincial bodies through a consistently understood and applied definition of elder abuse. The revised definition will also help to inform and shape an updated strategy on addressing elder abuse in Alberta.
