What is the Seniors’ Housing Forum?

The Seniors’ Housing Forum Planning Committee comprised of key community stakeholders, is presenting this one-day Seniors' Housing Forum for seniors, their families and caregivers, free of charge! The goal of the Forum is to educate participants about the range of housing options and community resources available for older adults and to guide individuals in planning appropriate future housing for themselves and/or significant others. This is the twelfth time the Seniors’ Housing Forum has been held, with participant attendance in past years ranging between 650-950 and 50+ exhibitors in attendance.

Registration

Participant registration opens September 1

To register, please phone 780.809.8604 and leave a voice message indicating the number of people in your group who will be attending. We do not require your names and phone numbers for attendance. 

 

Lunch

Complimentary on-site lunch and refreshments for participants, speakers and exhibitors.

Muffins, coffee and tea will also be served.

Session options to attend

A: Home & Independent Living: Health and Home

Location: Large Auditorium                 

This session will focus on seniors’ housing options for home living in apartments, condos and houses, and will also discuss home living supports, such as day programming and personal care services.

B: Dementia

Location: Atrium

Dementia strategies are being implemented nationally, provincially, and locally. What does this mean for seniors in Edmonton? This session will focus on dementia strategies and how they are informing care.

C: Financial Literacy

Location: Small Auditorium

This session will focus on frauds and scams and how to protect yourself and your personal information. The presenter will also discuss the kinds credit available, and how to calculate that cost.

D: Supportive & Facility Living: Health and Home

Location: Large Auditorium

This session will provide an overview on supportive living, facility living and designated supportive living options to help address the questions and concerns seniors face when choosing the optimal environment in which to live beyond independent living, as well as health supports available to complement these environments.

E: Virtual Villages

Location: Atrium

This session will explore how technology and social media helped develop a Plus 55 ‘Village’ in the suburban community of Oakridge in Calgary. The ‘Village’ uses Ageing Well and Ageing in Place principles to encourage strong social and intergenerational connections.

F: Supports to Maintain your Home and Home Adaptation Programs

Location: Small Auditorium

Do you need to modify a home for independent living? Do you want help with yard work or home maintenance? Learn about the Seniors Home Adaptation Program and other supports available to help meet the emerging needs of older adults.

G: Community Resources

Location: Large Auditorium

This session will give an overview of some practical resources that allow seniors to age in place and receive support in the community. It will describe city-wide services offered by senior-serving organizations that provide resources designed to help seniors live safely and independently.

H: Secondary Suites and Cooperatives

Location: Atrium

Learn about alternative housing models.

I: Downsizing and Decluttering

Location: Small Auditorium

Moving into smaller spaces; issues and      ideas.
